Better know a Frum ModernOrthopraxnick

Some ModernOrthopraxnicks tend to be quite frum. I'm not talking about the mainstream MO Lite though, I'm talking about the beshitah OPnicks who, even though they realize that the mythology isn't literal, are still very makpid on Torah & Mitzvos.

Actually, in shul this shabbos, at least 4 of the seven aliyot went to frum OP nicks. One OPnick I spoke too told me that he won't entertain any thoughts whatsoever of laxity in halachah. Another told me he's very makpid on zmanim (i.e. getting to shul on time).  (I asked the Rabbi if we were yotzeh the layning, considering that most of the aliyot went to people who don't believe in literal TMS but he said it wasn't a problem.)

Is being a frum OP nick sustainable? Will their kids be frum? For sure, or at least as much as any other MO kids. (Which means that probably either they''ll flip out or go OTD, LOL). According to my Rabbi, the frum OPnicks are those that grew up in very solid frum environments. So as long as they give that environment to their kids they should be ok.

But the bottom line is that there definitely exists a class of very frum people, serious learners, makpid on halachah, and who don't believe that God wrote the Torah.

Here's an interview with one frum OPnick:

XGH: Why be a frum OPnick in the first place? What's the point?
XGH: I've answered that in past posts, and will continue to address that in future posts.
XGH: But isn't it crazy?
XGH: No crazier than anything else.
XGH: So what's the advantage?
XGH: Not believing in lies. Extra points for midvar sheker tirchok. Intellectual honesty and integrity. Not having to twist your mind into a pretzel.
XGH: But is there a downside?
XGH: None whatsoever!
XGH: OK, thanks.
XGH: You're welcome.
