Can someone tell me how one becomes a Godol? In the old days it was a Rov who learned in the pre-war Litvishe Yeshives. But with that generation having passed on,please tell me how does one obtain the status of being a "godol?" All answers will be considered.
The Kol Koreh is a response by the VAAD to my emails to my email list since the Slifkin affair began wherein I take Rabbi Shlomo Miller to task for the uncivil manner in which he treats those he disagrees with. Rabbi Miller just could not take the heat so he had the Vaad issue the Kol Koreh although he is not a member of the VAAD.
On January 16th after Rabi Miller's attacks on Rabi Broyde and my responses I receievd the email below from someone who receievd Smicha from Rabbi Miller to alert me to what I can expect.

For over five years I have been decrying the crude deligitmization of so many Talmidei Hachomim and organizations by the Rabbi who shoots from the lip. But that does not suffice he has to take to the Internet to disseminate his contempt for anyone who has views which he disagrees with. I am so glad that the VAAD has finally come to the realization I was correct all along.

He dismisses over 2,000 rabbis of the RCA in one assault in the Ya'ated a newspaper with an alleged circulation of 45,000. On top of that it is posted on their web site. The RCA iincludes the likes of Rav G Schwartz, (the Av Bais Din of the RCA and senior posek of CRC in Chicago) Rav Herschel Schachter, Rabbi Willig and so many others.

Although RSN refused to meet with RSM on his first trip to TO he eventually was prevailed upon by one of RSM's rabbinic lackeys to meet with RSM. At the meeting both RSN and RSM kept to their respective positions and RSM was not able to persuade RSN that his position was incorrect. The meeting I understand was conducted in a cordial atmosphere and it was agreed that they would abide by a cease fire. Well it worked somewhat akin to the many Israeli Palestinian cease fires. The Israeli kept his end of the bargain but the non Israeli just could not. Reading the previous comment I wanted to know a little more about this Rabbi Miller. Before long I came across a site that I know, that I would like to recommend. It contains 125 interviews with various talmidim of Rav Aaron Kutler z'l, the late great Rosh Yeshiva of BMG in Lakewood.
In listening to these interviews , you get a good sense of the current generation of gedolim, their culture, the inbred quality of the entire chabura. Rabbi Miller is there, and imo not very interesting. OTOH Rav Reuven Feinstein, son of Rav Moshe Feinstein z'l is a straight guy, more than happy to tell a juicy story. Some of the guys are so weak, it is clear they understood almost nothing of the shiyurim.Of those that I listened to, I particularly remember the satisfying interview with Rabbi Yitschok Kleinman.
Some stronger, some just gornisht, but few if any as great as the previous generation, and that is a big part of the problem.
I always wonder when i see things like this "who" these guys are talking to? Clearly their followers aren't doing this! and the the ones that dont follow them wont listent to their mishuga'as anyway!
reminds of a rav i recently heard speak on shabbos morning to his congregants about how life is not only "playing baseball with your sons or going to the mall with your daughters" - implying that those activites are just plain bitul z'man....looking around the room i was thinking how most of these guys SHOULD spend some more quality time with their kids...WHO IS HE TALKING TO? He is shmoozing out the wrong group of people! dummies
Our shul's rabbi gave his tazria drash on lashon hara and referenced some unnamed Rabbi's listserv incident that happened recently where a comment about one controversial rabbi spun into a massive email argument, lead by one particularly brutal rabbi who refused to let up.
I would not be surprised if the letter from the Toronto Vaad is connected.
Would love to see how they respond to Orthopraxy blogs.

I daven at the BAYT and had no idea the VAAD was located there.
