Trembling before Chareidim
I noticed someone recently posted a blog about how people in the Chareidi community live in fear of being labelled not sufficiently frum enough, and how happy the author was to be in Modern Orthodoxy. This is funny, considering that in my experience, nobody is more fearful of being honest about their true beliefs than educated Modern Orthodox Rabbis. And RWMO live in perpetual fear (or maybe concern) that the excesses of the LWMO are going to delegitemize all of MO before the Chareidim. Everyone looks over their right shoulder. I guess you can claim that the MO Rabbis just want to hold onto their jobs and status, so it's not really fear per se, but rather just being practical, kind of like not being rude to your boss, even though you want to. Whereas in the Chareidi community there is actual fear, because coming out could ruin your life. Could be.

Jeez, you're obsessed.
Yes, 1 post a month. What an obsession.
if you compare chareidi "people" to MO "people" then there is a difference....(fear vs. nonfear! clear as day!)
you are comparing the RABBIS in MO to the chareidi PEOPLE....apples and oranges.
any comments on rabbi broyde's dialogue discusion or the rabbi kanefsky stuff? would love to hear your thoughts
"This is funny, considering that in my experience, nobody is more fearful of being honest about their true beliefs than educated Modern Orthodox Rabbis."
That is pretty funny. That's my experience too.
Ksil - I am comparing MO Rabbis to Chareidi Rabbis
It's a silly comparison at all levels. You have a handful MO rabbis who are perhaps a little afraid of limited consequences for expressing their views on very specific topics, in which they entirely contradict basic principles of Judaism and thus deserve whatever repercussions they will get. Whereas a huge number of people in the charedi world are afraid of very severe consequences for themselves and their families, for expressing their views on any number of topics, even though those views are perfectly kosher.
To paraphrase those gedolim Flo & Eddy aks The Turtles DON'T LET YOUR KIDS GET FRUMMER THAN YOU.
As for wifey and me I just tell her we're trapped in a cult!
"their views on very specific topics, in which they entirely contradict basic principles of Judaism and thus deserve whatever repercussions they will get" vs. "expressing their views on any number of topics, even though those views are perfectly kosher."
Aha, so now the arbiter of what is "kosher" or not is some anonymous troll, and any repercussions for "non-kosher" thoughts are completely deserved?

At least the MO rabbis aren't claiming that it is Daas Torah. These Charedi rabbis are proclaiming that their view that is not influenced by the masses rather by pure "Teira." Then they turn around and play politics.
Karl Marx is partially wrong. Religion is not only the opium of the masses. It is the opium of it's leaders.
